Children Burning Themselves With Ovens From Terrifying Online “Game”
A dangerous new online game parodying a cartoon is convincing children in Russia to burn themselves with their ovens. The game is the latest in a series of online social media scams that targets children, young girls in particular. The hoax game is most likely using the popularity of the cartoon “Winx Club: School of Witches” which has nothing to do with the scam.
Apparently in the scam game children are instructed to sneak out of bed in the middle of the night, go down to their kitchen, turn on the gas burners, and recite the “magic words” and they will then become “fire faeries”. This disturbing hoax is being reported by parents and has authorities deeply concerned. In some cases children were instructed to “not light the burners” intentionally trying to cause serious harm. There’s already been one case of a 5 year old suffering severe burns after falling victim to the online scam game.
Russian authorities are still trying to track down the origins of the online burning scam game and are actively monitoring anyone spreading the message. They believe that this is the work of professionals and not just an amateur prank. In a statement from investigators they said that current laws need to be updated to deal with the modern way predators acquire victims and that this needs to be treated as “incited” suicide.
This is basically the “Nigerian Prince” scam for kids. The harsh reality of the world is that evil people will take advantage of anything they can. We’ve seen this over and over again in these cases and cases involving those that would prey on children. We MUST monitor our children’s behavior when they are online. Give them their privacy to their face, teach them to respect privacy, but watch everything they do that you can behind their back’s and don’t feel bad one bit. Those that might do harm to your kids won’t be having any moral dilemmas about lying. This is all of course provided you give a damn about them.
