Infamous convicted mass murderer Charles Manson met his demise at 8:13 PM PST November 19, 2017 in a California hospital where he was transferred from California State Prison in Corcoran after falling gravely ill. Manson was serving nine consecutive life sentences for masterminding the gruesome Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. As reported by TMZ Debra Tate said she received a call from the prison telling her Manson died 8:13 PM Sunday confirming his demise.

“Charles Manson (born Charles Milles Maddox, November 12, 1934) is an American convicted mass killer and previous religion con-man who led what became known as the Manson Family, a commune that emerged in California in the late 1960s. In 1971 he was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people – including the actress Sharon Tate – all of which were carried out by members of the group at his instruction. Manson also received first-degree murder convictions for two other deaths. Manson was originally sentenced to death, but his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment when California invalidated the state’s death penalty statute in 1972. He is currently serving multiple life sentences at California State Prison in Corcoran.” – Wikipedia

Many idolized this master maninipulator to the point of becoming a cultural icon and representative of the dark side of the 60’s “drugged out hippie” counter culture. Manson himself never did his own dirty work but used his influence to “control” the will’s of others, brainwashing them into committing the murders for him. Manson believed in what he called “Helter Skelter”, a term he took from the Beatles’ song of the same name to be an impending apocalyptic race war.

What’s your opinion on Manson? Do you think that he was incorrectly idolized across several generations of misguided youth and was in fact a mass murderer? Or was he merely a victim and scapegoat for a gruesome set of crimes he did not physically take part in? (Personally, screw him, glad he’s gone. Guilty!)
