Vermont teacher’s aide in love with 10 year old sends nudes
Jodie Spears, a St. Albans, Vermont paraeducator for Highgate Elementary School in Highgate Center was arraigned Tuesday and has entered a plea of “not guilty”. According to police Spears allegedly sent a 10 year old boy nude pictures of herself in February of 2017. After the boy’s mother allegedly found photos on her son’s Instagram account Franklin County prosecutor Jim Hughes says Spears is facing felony charges of “lewd and lascivious conduct”.
Spears, who is on paid leave from the school system, claims according to court documents to have been “in love” with the 10 year old child and allegedly had previously made statements regarding a rendezvous with the child while her boyfriend was out working. According to police Spears knew her actions were not honorable and that she had asked the 10 year old to delete the messages she had sent him.
A statement from Spears’ attorney speaks to her client’s anticipation of telling her side of the story.
After a search of Spears’ home turned up a phone containing conversations with the boy she was arrested Monday night and could possibly face additional charges. Spears is currently out on bond for $5000.
