Pastor and flock strip 25 year old woman naked and burn her alive accused of possession
23-year-old church minister Juan Gregorio Rocha Romero and 4 members of his parish are suspects in the barbaric murder of a 25 year old wife and mother of two that was accused of being possessed by the devil. Vilma Trujillo Garcia died on Tuesday from her injuries that included first degree burns on over 80% of her body.
In the countryside town of El Cortezal located in north east Nicaragua, pastor Romero at the Assemblies of God Church claims that the deceased woman had “thrown herself on the flames to rid herself of bad spirits inside her” and “God told her he was going to remove that bad spirit from her and asked us to start a fire because that’s where the spirit was going to be expelled”.
Vilma’s husband Reynaldo Peralta Rodriguez has a different story. He claims that his wife was held hostage by the church for over eight days and that she was a prisoner accused of possession and witchcraft. Rodriguez states “I don’t think my wife was possessed at all. What they did to her was witchcraft”. He also is making claims that his wife was raped and that he was threatened by a man with a rifle that he confronted.
Church goers claim that Garcia was “possessed by a bad spirit” after she had committed adultery and that they we attempting to purge the evil spirit from her. Franklin Jarquin Hernandez, an Assemblies of God worshiper that was involved, stated that “It was a bad spirit that pushed her and she fell on the fire.”
The accused mob are being treated as criminal suspects and authorities are building a case against the church members.
After spending five days in intensive care Ms. Garcia, wife and mother of 2, died around 4:30am local time on Tuesday as a result of her injuries.
